Edited by Dian Hanson and illustrated by Tom of Finland himself, the book traces the birth of an icon. In 1965 Tom began flirting with the idea of an ongoing character, trying out a blond named Vicky and a Tarzan-inspired Jack before settling in 1968 on Kake. A post-Stonewall, hyper-masculine figure in a tight white T-shirt, Kake became the template for the gay clone look of the 1970s.
Between 1968 and 1986, Tom published 26 episodes of Kake adventures, most as 20-page booklets. This complete collection reunites all of them in one place, letting readers follow every chapter of mustaches, muscles and liberated libido from start to finish.
